Usually I’m not on top of things. No chocolate chip cookies for National CC Cookie Day, doughnuts for National Doughnut Day, or pie for PI Day. I just don’t generally plan that well. Even my Easter post that I actually DID prepare ahead of time (the photos, at any rate), got delayed due to a crazy venture – see post for that story. That said, you can imagine how pleased I was to learn that it is now National Ice Cream Month and I was unintentionally on top of it! (truth be told, even for a foodie I’m getting a little sick of all these national food days/months – am I the only one?) I have three ice cream recipes to share with you guys – one I have shared already – so how awesome is that? I love it when I’m on top of things, even when it’s unintentional.
Today’s ice cream recipe is very intentional (Lexi’s words of the day: intentional & unintentional) and is a candy
For this combination I, with the help of my dear mother, chose candies that we thought the most all across favorites. However, you really could use which ever candy you desire, as long as it takes freezing well.
I think the part I am most excited about is how this ice cream is flavored. Going off inspiration from afore mentioned Easter dessert, I used melted Hershey’s Kisses for the chocolate base (normally I would just use cocoa powder), so that candy infiltrates every part of the ice cream. The afterthought was: you could have just used a Hershey’s bar… BUT before you judge my slow thinking state, remember that I was going off of the pie (Easter dessert) recipe which uses melted Kisses. If I were making it today though, I would just use a bar instead – I think you would get the same taste. I mean, Hershey’s Kisses and Hershey’s milk chocolate bars taste the same, right? I’m not imagining that?
If you do decide to swap bar for kisses, I’m not exactly sure on the quantity – maybe a 7oz bar? But don’t take my word for it since I haven’t tried it yet!
The other candies involved are Kit Kats, M&M’s (of course!) and Snickers. Again, you could insert a lot of other candies, if you like. This is basically just an idea – you, my friends, take it from there!
The lowdown: This creamy ice cream gets its chocolate flavor from melted Hershey’s Kisses and is studded with your favorite candies. So fun and perfect for summer!
